Public Sewer Extension in North Manheim Township Receives State Funding

HARRISBURG – The North Manheim Township Authority received a low interest loan for over $2.3 million from the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST) today to extend their sewer system to 55 new properties on Garfield Avenue. Sen. Dave Argall (R-29) and Rep. Tim Twardzik (R-123) worked with township officials to secure this highly competitive funding.

The properties that will now be connected to the sewer system currently rely on septic systems. A study by the authority found that approximately one third of the systems experience failures, resulting in sewage flowing into the Schuylkill River.

“We’ve made incredible progress cleaning up the Schuylkill River thanks to strong community partnerships,” said Argall. “This state funding will remove a source of pollution, while also improving water service for many Schuylkill County families.”

“This investment not only addresses the immediate need for improved sewage infrastructure but also contributes to the long-term health of our community and the Schuylkill River,” said Twardzik. “This initiative underscores our commitment to improving the quality of life for our residents. I would like to thank Sen. Argall and township officials for their collaboration and support in securing this vital funding.”

With this funding, the authority will install 4,800 feet of 8-inch sanitary sewer, 30 each of 4-foot diameter precast concrete manholes, laterals, and cleanouts.
