Continuing the Fight on Blight SummitIn our ongoing efforts to deal with the blight problem, I am hosting another summit that will bring us together to discuss common problems, and work toward finding solutions. I have heard from many of you about the problems caused by vacant and abandoned properties in the foreclosure process. I have been working with the banking community to address some of these problems. The upcoming summit will focus on this issue and the role it plays in regard to blight. I want this discussion to be productive as well as informative. Please come to this summit with positive suggestions and specific issues you would like to address. I am very grateful that Attorney Michael McGeever of the KML Law Group in Philadelphia has agreed to participate in this summit. Attorney McGeever has been involved with drafting legislation to expedite the foreclosure process for vacant and abandoned properties in Pennsylvania. While we may not always agree on every issue, it is my goal to bring the banking community and our local officials together at the same table to have a productive and worthwhile discussion on this subject. The summit will take place on Wednesday, August 31, 2016 in Room 201, of the Health & Wellness Building at Penn State – Schuylkill Campus, 200 University Drive, Schuylkill Haven at 6:00 p.m. I hope that you can attend and please encourage others from your community to join us. Please let my office know by Monday, August 29, 2016 if you can attend by calling any of the offices listed in the left-hand column or responding by e-mail to mdougherty@pasen.gov. I look forward to seeing you there! | |
