$325,000 Secured for Monroe County Projects

HARRISBURG – Two Monroe County projects will receive funding through Pennsylvania's Community Conservation Partnership Program (CCPP), according to members of its legislative delegation.

The funding approved will enhance the quality of life for residents and visitors in the Monroe County area:

  • Tunkhannock Township, $100,000 – Will rehabilitate three miles of trails in the Delaware State Forest; in addition to improving signage, landscaping and improving overall accessibility.
  • Jackson Township, $225,000 - Will acquire the Donofrio Tract of approximately 85 acres along Sherwood Forest Road for greenway, recreation and watershed protection.

"These grants reaffirm our commitment to improving and fostering outdoor recreational opportunities for all Pennsylvanians," said Sen. Dave Argall.  "I am pleased that we can continue to be a greenways and trails leader."

"Even as our population continues to rise in numbers and  development expands, we remain committed in Monroe County to preserve what first attracted people to the Poconos to begin with...our natural beauty," said Rep. Mario Scavello.  "This grant will help the county to continue this mission."

"The Delaware State Forest is a valuable resource for Monroe County, and for the entire Northeast Pennsylvania region," said Rep. Mike Carroll. "I am happy that the trails here have been recognized and that improvements will be made so residents and visitors to this area can enjoy the land for years to come."
