Argall Appointed to Key Senate Committee

HARRISBURG – Senate President Pro Tempore Joseph Scarnati (R-25) today announced the appointment of Senator David G. Argall (R-29) to the Senate Community, Economic and Recreational Development Committee.

As a member of the House, Argall had worked with a similar committee in the creation of the Main Street downtown revitalization program and the Elm Street neighborhood investment program. Additionally, Argall has worked in both the State Senate and the House Committees to develop several reforms to the Keystone Opportunity Zone (KOZ) Law.

Argall introduced an amendment to the KOZ expansion law last year to increase oversight of the program by requiring the Department of Community and Economic Development to compile information about the number and types of jobs created. The KOZ improvement legislation was the result of Argall’s 2006 Ph.D. dissertation at Penn State, which featured an in-depth analysis of the program.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to serve on this important committee that affects the lives of so many of our residents. During this terrible economic recession, there is no more important subject to the people of the six counties I now represent than jobs and economic development,” Argall said.

Argall currently serves as Vice Chairman of the Senate Urban Affairs and Housing Committee. He also serves on the Senate Appropriations, Education and Labor and Industry Committees, as well as the Joint Legislative Air and Water Pollution Control and Conservation Committee.
