HARRISBURG – Legislation that would encourage property owners to make land and water areas available to the public for recreational purposes unanimously passed the Senate today, while legislation addressing pay differences between corrections managers and lower-ranking officers passed unanimously in the Senate Judiciary Committee. Senate Bills 469 and 1019 were suggested to Senator Argall by local residents.
“These bills that moved today in the Senate represent a lot of work and research on the part of local constituents dealing with these issues firsthand,” said Argall. “I appreciate their willingness to share their particular concerns so I can take those concerns with me to Harrisburg.”
Senate Bill 469 will allow property owners to open their properties to individuals for recreation.
“Senate Bill 469 addresses serious concerns a constituent has about a public trail located on private property,” said Argall. “This legislation seeks to protect property owners.”
Senate Bill 1019 addresses the unfairness in pay between Lieutenants and Sergeants within the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections.
“With two state correctional institutions in Schuylkill County, this problem is impacting morale and the Department of Corrections’ ability to promote within,” said Argall. “After working with numerous corrections officers, we feel this plan will help bring fairness back to our state correctional facilities salary schedule.”
Senate Bill 1019 moves to the Senate Appropriations Committee for its consideration while Senate Bill 469 advances to the House of Representatives.
