POLK TOWNSHIP – Senator David G. Argall (R-29) and Representative Mike Carroll (D-118) today announced grants awarded through the Pa. Department of Community and Economic Development’s Commonwealth Financing Authority.
The portion of Monroe County represented by both Sen. Argall and Rep. Carroll received a cumulative $584,488. Specifically, Kunkletown Fire Department will receive $300,000 for the construction of a new garage, Polk Township will receive $227,900 for a bridge replacement, and Tunkhannock Township will receive $56,588 for municipal building renovations.
Argall and Carroll agreed on the importance of the program, especially during tough economic times.
“These grants will go a long way for our local communities who need assistance with these important projects,” Argall said. “Each municipality asked me to support their respective project last year. I am pleased to see this much-needed funding come through from the casino industry to aid with these local priorities, especially as state and local governments deal with budget-tightening due to the current economic climate.”
In Monroe County, two percent of gross terminal revenues generated at Mount Airy Casino Resort go toward the Local Share Account, which was established by the Pennsylvania Race Horse Development and Gaming Act of 2004.
“Considering the limited sources of funds available for a range of important economic development and community development projects, I’m pleased many communities and vital county organizations will be able to complete projects with these funds that will enhance the economy and quality of life for Monroe County citizens,” Carroll noted.
