HARRISBURG – The state Senate unanimously confirmed former U.S. Rep. Tim Holden to serve on the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board (PLCB) on Wednesday, according to Senator David G. Argall (R-29).
The Senate confirmation comes a day after Holden was vetted in the Senate Law and Justice Committee, where he received unanimous approval by members of the committee.
Nominated by Republican Governor Tom Corbett, Holden replaces a board spot previously held by Patrick J. Stapleton III, a Democrat.
“I’m honored that Governor Corbett nominated me to serve on the PLCB,” Holden said. “I want to express my sincere thanks to Senate President Pro Tempore Joe Scarnati (R-25) and Senate Minority Leader Jay Costa (D-43). I truly appreciate Sen. Argall’s assistance for his help in introducing me to the Senate Law and Justice Committee and the Senate Republican Caucus. I’m looking forward to serving on the PLCB.”
Argall, who provided the opening remarks during Tuesday’s Senate Law and Justice Committee hearing on Holden’s nomination, said it’s time to put down partisan rhetoric.
“While there is a time and place for partisanship, today is a day to get something worthwhile accomplished on a completely bipartisan basis,” Argall said. “I know Tim will serve the people of Pennsylvania well in his new role.”
The PLCB is governed by a three-member board, appointed by the governor and confirmed by two-thirds of the state Senate. Holden will join current board members Joseph E. Brion, Chairman, and Robert S. Marcus.
Holden will be formally sworn in during a ceremony on Thursday, November 14 at the Schuylkill County Courthouse in Courtroom No. 1 at 3 p.m. with Common Pleas President Judge William Baldwin presiding.
