HARRISBURG –Senator David G. Argall (R-29) and Representative Neal Goodman (D-123) announced a $23,500 grant for Mahanoy Area School District through the Department of Education’s Safe Schools Targeted Grant program.
Act 70 of 2013 provided for a grant program that will enhance violence prevention programs and emergency preparedness initiatives in schools. The Schuylkill County delegation to the General Assembly supported the measure last year.
“I’m pleased to see Mahanoy Area receive this much-needed grant after seeking these funds,” Argall said. “After tragic acts of violence in public schools across the nation, these grants are a step in the right direction toward protecting the safety and well-being of our students and faculty.”
“I commend Mahanoy Area school officials for taking the initiative to keep their schools as safe as possible,” Rep. Goodman said. “We all have a responsibility to keep students and teachers safe while they are in the classroom, and to provide an environment that is conducive to learning.”
The award for Mahanoy Area School District is part of more than $2.6 million awarded across the state for these competitive grants. This is the second and final round of safety grants for the year.
