Applications available now for new specialty license plates honoring veterans

HARRISBURG – Local veterans can apply now to receive new specialty plates that were created earlier this year to honor those who earned special recognition in the U.S. military, according to Senator David G. Argall (R-29).

Act 109 of 2014, which Argall authored, created license plates for Army veterans who earned the Combat Infantry Badge during their tour of duty. The legislation was later amended to include a wide range of other military honors, including those who earned the Combat Action Ribbon (Marines, Navy and Coast Guard), Combat Action Badge (Air Force), Combat Action Medal (Army) and Combat Medical Badge (Army medics).

The bill also included specialty plates for Merchant Marines who served during wartime, as well as a variety of new designations honoring charitable causes.

Applications for the new military plates are available on the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s Driver and Vehicle Services webpage at http://www.dmv.state.pa.us/license_plates/index.shtml. Applicants must complete Form MV-150 in order to receive a U.S. military service registration plate.

Local residents interested in applying for a specialty plate may contact Sen. Argall’s office toll-free at 1-877-327-4255 to have an application mailed to them.

“Veterans Day offers all of us a valuable opportunity to reflect on the incredible contributions of those who have served our nation in the U.S. military,” Argall said. “As we pause to thank them for their service, it is fitting that we also extend an opportunity for more veterans to proudly display their military honors for all to see.”

Argall introduced the legislation on the suggestion of local Vietnam veteran Joe Soga of Berks County.
