SCHUYLKILL HAVEN – Senator David G. Argall (R-Schuylkill/Berks) will host his annual Senator for a Day program at Penn State’s Schuylkill Campus (200 University Drive, Schuylkill Haven, PA 17972) on Thursday, May 14.
Over 80 middle and high school students from 10 local school districts will participate in the student government seminar, starting at 8:30 a.m. in the John E. Morgan Auditorium. The program schedule can be found here.
Argall said it’s a unique opportunity for high school students.
Students are assigned to one of four committees – Education, Finance, State Government or Transportation – to consider two mock Senate proposals. The students are provided news articles in advance of the seminar to become familiar with the issues.
Once the mock committee meetings are adjourned, students return to the Morgan Auditorium to debate proposals that received approval in committee.
School districts participating in Thursday’s event include Blue Mountain, Mahanoy Area, Marian Catholic, Minersville Area, Nativity BVM, North Schuylkill Area, Pottsville Area, Saint Clair Area, Schuylkill Haven Area and Tamaqua Area.
The event runs until 1:30 p.m.
