HARRISBURG – Senator David G. Argall (R-Schuylkill/Berks) will continue to serve as Chairman of the Senate Majority Policy Committee for the 2017-18 legislative session. Senator Argall was re-appointed to the position by Senate President Pro Tempore Joe Scarnati as part of the Senate Republican Caucus’s reorganization that took place on Wednesday morning at the state Capitol.
Argall was first appointed to the post in 2014 for the 2015-16 legislative session. He is the first senator from the 29th Senatorial District to hold a leadership post since the 1860s.
“I’m honored to continue serving in this role and to work with my colleagues to develop legislation on critical issues affecting our region and our state,” Argall said. “We’ve been very active over the last two years with the committee through bringing together stakeholders on key issues ranging from economic development to welfare reform, from pet protection to budget reforms. It’s an all-encompassing committee.”
Argall explained that the committee works with Senators to develop legislation important to their constituencies. Throughout the next legislative session the committee will also focus on taking a closer look at ways to reduce state spending, in what is anticipated to be another difficult year for the state budget.
“Taxpayers continue to tell us over and over that government should live within its means,” Argall stated. “I am confident that the Policy committee will play a key role in identifying real cost savings for taxpayers.”
Chairman Argall plans to continue reviewing big-picture issues, like the state’s shifting demographic trends, which affect suburban, rural and urban areas of the state differently.
