Hearing Reviews Governor’s Proposed Congressional District Maps

HARRISBURG – The Senate State Government Committee held another public hearing today reviewing two Congressional redistricting maps proposed by Governor Wolf, according to Senator David G. Argall (R-Berks/Schuylkill), who chaired the hearing.  The Senate is expected to consider a final proposal next week.

“Today’s hearing on the redrawing of congressional districts is another example of our attempt to reduce the hyper-partisan gerrymandering of the past,” said Senator Argall.  “The open dialogue between the members of the Senate State Government Committee and citizen advocates was invaluable as Senator Sharif Street (D-Philadelphia) and I continue to work towards a bipartisan compromise.”

This was the fourteenth public hearing of the General Assembly on the drawing of new congressional districts during this legislative session.

The hearing featured testimony from two members of the governor’s Pennsylvania Redistricting Advisory Council, Broad + Liberty co-founder Albert Eisenberg, Senior Advisor to the Committee of Seventy David Thornburgh, Managing Director of the Committee of Seventy’s Draw the Lines Project Justin Villere, and redistricting specialist Amanda Holt.

More information on today’s hearing can be found on the committee’s website.
