SHENANDOAH – The January edition of the local TV program hosted by Senator Dave Argall (R-Schuylkill/Carbon/Luzerne) features recent events with Representative Tim Twardzik (R-Schuylkill) on issues of blight and housing.
“With a new year comes new possibilities and we’re working hard to win this battle against blight,” Senator Argall said. “Representative Twardzik and I are committed to breathing new life into our local communities to bring families, businesses, and new opportunities to the area that we are proud to call home.”
Senator Argall serves as the chair of the bipartisan, bicameral Statewide Blight Task Force which has worked with legislators and local leaders to fight blight in communities large and small across Pennsylvania. Representative Twardzik has championed legislation and funding to demolish blighted buildings into useful spaces for the benefit of the community.
Senator Argall joined Representative Twardzik at a press conference in Shenandoah where a $500,000 grant was announced to demolish blighted buildings so that new senior housing can be built. Similar funds have been awarded in 18 other local communities to tear down a total of 79 blighted buildings, with an additional 60 properties now slated for future demolition due to the funding which the legislators have been able to obtain.
The program also includes a segment where Senator Argall and Representative Twardzik took part in a bipartisan roundtable discussion with Representative Jordan Harris (D-Philadelphia), the Democratic Whip of the Pennsylvania House, and the Housing Alliance of Pennsylvania to discuss housing issues.
