HARRISBURG – A bill to ensure parents control when their children are exposed to sexually explicit content in schools was approved by the Senate Education Committee today, according to committee chair Sen. Dave Argall (R-29).
“As we saw during yesterday’s public hearing, these images and stories are not rumors – they are real and they can be found in many schools across Pennsylvania,” said Argall. “Parents deserve to decide when their children are exposed to this material.”
Senate Bill 7, sponsored by Sen. Ryan Aument (R-36), would require schools to identify sexually explicit content in school curriculum, material, and books and notify parents that it’s available.
Parents would then be required to sign a form stating that they give their child permission to view these materials. If they do not give their permission, their child would be provided with a non-explicit alternative.
The bill now advances to the full Senate for its consideration.
