Schuylkill County Communities Awarded Grants to Improve Parks, Recreation

HARRISBURG – More than $600,000 was awarded to improve outdoor recreation in Schuylkill County, according to Sen. Dave Argall (R-29) and Rep. Tim Twardzik (R-123), who worked with local leaders to secure this funding.

“I’m very grateful that these dollars–this highly competitive funding–will improve opportunities for my constituents to enjoy the natural beauty of our area,” said Argall.

“Investments like these in our parks and recreational spaces bring valuable improvements to our communities,” said Twardzik. “By expanding and enhancing public spaces, we’re fostering safe, welcoming areas where residents of all ages can come together, stay active, and enjoy the outdoors. These fantastic projects will make our neighborhoods more inviting and welcoming, sparking more community pride.”

  • Cass Township was awarded $65,000 to further develop Forestville Playground. Work will include the construction of a pickleball court and pedestrian walkways, the installation of new playground equipment, and more improvements.
  • The Schuylkill River Greenway Association was awarded $500,000 to develop the Schuylkill River Trail in Blythe and New Castle Townships and Saint Clair Borough. Work will include the construction of 4.6 miles of trail.
  • West Mahanoy Township was awarded $67,500 to rehabilitate the Altamont Park. Work will include the installation of playground equipment and other improvements.

This funding was awarded through the Community Conservation Partnerships Program, which supports projects to improve parks, recreation, and conservation across Pennsylvania.
