HARRISBURG – The February edition of the local TV program hosted by Sen. Dave Argall (R-29) reviews key efforts to breathe new life into towns across Schuylkill, Carbon and Luzerne counties and the ongoing controversy surrounding vacant state properties at White Haven and across Pennsylvania.
“While MUCH work remains ahead, we’ve made real progress revitalizing many of our local communities,” said Argall. “Many of these successes will benefit our area for decades to come.”
The program reviews:
- the widening of the dangerous stretch of Rt. 61 from Frackville to St. Clair,
- the revitalization of the former KME plant in Nesquehoning,
- the renovation of the blighted YMCA building in Hazleton into a childcare center,
- a tour of the successes of the Tamaqua City Revitalization and Improvement Zone,
- the transformations of the Schwab School in Weatherly and the Altamont Hotel in Hazleton into a total of 98 apartments, and
- Panther Valley and White Haven joining the Blueprint Communities program for community revitalization.
This month’s program also features a Senate Majority Policy Committee hearing chaired by Argall on the wasteful delays at vacant, state centers in White Haven, Hamburg, and Polk, which were closed without input from the surrounding communities or state legislators. The state has spent $162 million in recent years to heat, staff, and maintain sewer and water systems at empty properties across the state – with their fate in question.
“This governor and the last two governors, Republican and Democrat, should all be embarrassed by this continuing bureaucratic nightmare,” said Argall.
