HARRISBURG – A project to refurbish the deteriorating County Bridge #19 on Pohopco Drive in Towamensing Township was awarded $600,000 in state funding today, according to Rep. Doyle Heffley (R-122) and Sen. Dave Argall (R-29). Bridge #19 crosses Beltzville Lake and Pine Run and provides key access to Beltzville State Park and the largest public boat launch in Carbon County. Repairing it and extending its life has been a key priority of Carbon County officials.
“I’m happy to see these resources are coming back to Carbon County,” said Heffley. “This is one of the largest county bridges, and it’s a crucial link for the community. The funds will help preserve the bridge structure for the long term and offset the county’s repair costs.”
“This highly competitive state funding will do much more than repair a bridge – it will support local employers, provide access to the recreation opportunities at Beltzville Lake, and continue to allow residents of the area to quickly visit Jim Thorpe and Lehighton,” said Argall.
This funding was awarded through the Multimodal Transportation Fund, which provides grants to encourage economic development and ensure a safe and reliable system of transportation. The grants were approved during a public meeting of the Commonwealth Financing Authority today, an independent agency with fiduciary responsibility over the funding of programs and investments in Pennsylvania’s economic growth.
