Decorated veterans honored in new plates available through PennDOT

HARRISBURG – A new law will allow veterans who earned certain honors to proudly display their awards by way of specialty license plates offered by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, according to State Senator David G. Argall (R-Schuylkill).

Act 103 of 2012 allows for military veterans who earned certain achievement, including the Silver Star, Bronze Star, Bronze Star for Valor, Distinguished Service Cross, Distinguished Flying Cross, Navy Cross and Air Force Cross, to obtain a specialty license plate honoring their award.

Argall, who sponsored the Senate version, Senate Bill 468, of the legislation, said the bill is a fitting tribute to those who earned these designations.

“We cannot thank enough the brave men and women who serve in uniform,” said Argall. “They have committed their lives to our nation, and in doing so, have achieved various accolades. These new license plates are another way for our great veterans to proudly display their achievements.”

Argall stated that he introduced the legislation on behalf of local veterans, including Deer Lake Borough Mayor Michael Cooper.

Veterans who are interested in obtaining these specialty plates can visit PennDOT’s website or call Senator Argall’s office at 1-877-DARGALL (327-4255) for more information.
