HARRISBURG – Legislation that would limit the school district’s ability to appeal the assessment of a property based solely on the sale of the property was approved today during a House Finance Committee meeting.
Senate Bill 1309 was introduced by Senator Argall on behalf of numerous local constituents impacted by this practice.
In his remarks to the House Finance Committee, Senator Argall noted the unfairness of school districts picking on individual property owners based solely on when they purchased a home.
“At the end of the day, this practice shows another reason why we need total elimination of school district property taxes,” said Argall. “I am not giving up that fight, but there are many constituents who have been hit hard by this unfair way to raise taxes.”
Argall noted that most school districts that used this process unfairly have stopped; however, Argall’s legislation would provide remedies for homeowners hurt by this process.
