SHENANDOAH – Downtown Shenandoah, Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to revitalizing downtown Shenandoah, was awarded $50,000 from the Department of Community and Economic Development, according to Rep. Tim Twardzik (R-Schuylkill) and Senator David G. Argall (R-Schuylkill/Berks). This grant is part of the Supporting Elm and Main (SEAM) grant program, which was created to support community revitalization organizations that have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and the long-term shutdown of our economy.
“Downtown Shenandoah, Inc. has been working to revitalize our community,” said Twardzik. “While some of their efforts have been halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I am grateful they received this grant from the Department of Community and Economic Development. These funds will allow Downtown Shenandoah, Inc. to continue to bring prosperity to the region.”
“The pandemic brought an incredible amount of uncertainty into Downtown Shenandoah, Inc’s. fundraising efforts to revitalize their community,” said Argall. “I’m very pleased they were chosen to receive this grant funding. Everyone at DSI works very hard to improve their town, and this extra support will help them continue those efforts despite the odds stacked against them by the pandemic.”
“Downtown Shenandoah, Inc. is thrilled to receive the SEAM grant,” said Susan Williams, the Executive Director of Downtown Shenandoah, Inc. “We are very appreciative and will use the funding to take the place of substantial losses we experienced from canceling our major fundraising events in 2020 and into the first quarter of 2021. Thank you for your ongoing support of DSI, The Center For Education Business and the Arts (CEBA), and our mission to revitalize our community.”
