MAHANOY CITY – The January edition of the local TV program hosted by Senator David G. Argall (R-Schuylkill/Berks) focuses on the Senator’s bipartisan work in addressing blight and revitalizing communities across Pennsylvania.
“In some towns, the ongoing revitalization looks like a miracle, given the terrible conditions these communities faced years ago,” Senator Argall said. “Blight seems to have done what many consider to be impossible in our current political climate – it’s able to bring Democrats and Republicans and Independents, House and Senate members together along with the Governor’s office to find real solutions.”
The first Argall Report of the new year, this month’s edition focuses on a recent presentation Senator Argall gave to the American Folklore Society which explained how Jim Thorpe changed from a distressed community in the 1960’s and 70’s to a top tourist destination which has created a large number of new jobs for local residents.
Senator Argall also highlights a recent roundtable hosted by the Housing Alliance of Pennsylvania where he and Representative Mike Sturla (D-Lancaster) were invited to give remarks. In his remarks, Senator Argall notes that while he and Representative Sturla don’t see eye to eye on many issues, they agree that political affiliations shouldn’t matter when it comes to fighting blight.
“We have seen a real bipartisan push to tear down dilapidated structures all across Pennsylvania, both urban and rural areas, in order to improve our communities and breathe new life into our old towns,” Senator Argall continued. “I look forward to further progress in communities like Pottsville, Shenandoah, Hamburg, Tamaqua, Reading, and Hazleton.”
