POTTSVILLE – The August edition of the local TV program hosted by Senator Dave Argall (R-29) features a recent press conference where new market-rate housing opportunities were announced in Pottsville and Tamaqua.
“We’re not thinking small, we’re funding big things,” Senator Argall said. “After years of efforts by so many people to bring more jobs to this area, employers and employees now need more quality places to live locally so they can avoid long, expensive, and daily commutes from distant communities.”
Senator Argall and Representative Tim Twardzik (R-123) made the announcement of the grants at their Pottsville district office. The $1 million grant will develop dozens of quality, market-rate downtown apartments in now-vacant spaces located in downtown Tamaqua and downtown Pottsville. The grants were awarded following a study conducted by the Tamaqua Area Community Partnership and the Pottsville Area Development Corporation on how to restore the spaces.
“We’ve seen the demand for downtown living explode in other communities such as Lancaster, Allentown, and Bethlehem and now, we are seeing the same trend right here,” Senator Argall continued. “We plan to take this same initiative to communities across the region, from Pine Grove to McAdoo and beyond.”
