HARRISBURG – A transfer of land to the Bear Creek Township Volunteer Fire Hose Company was approved by the State Senate today by a bipartisan vote of 46-3, according to State Senator David G. Argall (R-29) and State Senator John Yudichak (I-14). Preliminary plans for the property include building a new fire house.
“Thanks to this proposed transfer, fire services in Bear Creek Township will be substantially improved,” said State Senator Argall. “I’m thankful the Senate was able to act in a bipartisan manner to improve the safety of the residents of Luzerne County and support our brave fire fighters who put their safety on the line to keep the rest of us safe.”
“Daily, our volunteer first responders go above and beyond their call of duty to protect our communities, so we must ensure the state continues to support our volunteer emergency services organizations,” said State Senator Yudichak. “Today’s significant state land transfer to the Bear Creek Township Volunteer Fire Company will help the company move along with its proposed plan to build a new fire house facility that will become a major public safety asset to the Bear Creek Township region.”
The parcel of land in question was formerly owned by PennDOT and is located in close proximity to other municipal buildings on Bear Creek Boulevard. The transfer, which is contained in House Bill 121, now awaits final consideration in the State House of Representatives.
