Argall: Unclaimed Property? We Can Help!

MAHANOY CITY – Sen. Dave Argall (R-29) encouraged his constituents in Schuylkill, Carbon, and Luzerne counties to contact his offices to check if they have unclaimed property today.

Unclaimed property can include dormant bank accounts, abandoned stocks, uncashed checks, and more. According to Pennsylvania Treasurer Stacy Garrity’s office, about one in ten Pennsylvanians has money waiting to be claimed, totaling more than $4.5 billion.

“Essentially, unclaimed property is your money that the state is holding on your behalf,” said Argall “I would much rather see it back in your pocket than sitting in a state government bank account.”

Argall noted that his offices in Mahanoy City, Pottsville, and Hazleton have contacted more than 150 people this summer and worked to return more than $400,000 in unclaimed property directly to their bank accounts, ranging from less than $10 to more than $10,000. Many of those contacted were not aware that they had money waiting to be claimed.

One person assisted by Argall’s office lives in Tennessee. Her mother lived in the Minersville Area over 70 years ago and had unclaimed property. While visiting Schuylkill County for a vacation, she stopped at Argall’s Mahanoy City office and was connected with her money.

“Please do not hesitate to contact any of my offices if you would like us to check if you have unclaimed property,” Argall continued. “Your money may be waiting for you!”

Argall’s Mahanoy City office can be contacted at 570-773-0891. His Pottsville office can be contacted at 570-621-3400. His Hazleton office can be contacted at 570-521-9441. The Pennsylvania Treasury also operates a website where you can search to see if you have money waiting to be claimed: https://patreasury.gov/unclaimed-property/
