TREMONT TWP – Local legislators announced an abandoned mine reclamation project at Stump Run is now underway due to a recently awarded grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.
Senator Dave Argall (R-29) and Representative Mike Tobash (R-125) noted that the $742,385 grant will help the township improve a major flood-related hazard.
“After the recent flooding, projects like these will provide much-needed safety improvements to limit damages from future natural disasters,” Argall said. “I’m pleased to see this vital public safety project grant put to good use in western Schuylkill County.”
“This is an important grant for public safety, as well as sediment and erosion problems that we’re experiencing in the Swatara Watershed area,” Tobash said. “A grant like this goes hand in hand with local municipalities to make sure debris does not end up in streams and result in flooding.”
The project started on February 4, 2013 and is expected to be completed by April 10, 2014.
