HARRISBURG – Legislation to provide special vehicle plates for recipients of the Silver Star, Bronze Star and Bronze Star with Valor unanimously passed Wednesday in the State Senate. The legislation, House Bill 1269, mirrors a bill, Senate Bill 468, which was introduced by Senator David G. Argall on behalf of local constituents.
“In an effort to honor brave men and women that have earned these distinctive honors while serving our nation, I’m pleased to see this bill pass in the Senate today and head to the Governor’s desk for his signature,” said Argall. “This legislation was suggested to me by Mayor Michael Cooper of Deer Lake, an Iraq war veteran. I am constantly reminded how many brave men and women we have selflessly serving our nation from all across Pennsylvania.”
Mayor Cooper and fellow veterans suggested this legislation to Senator Argall in an effort to recognize more veterans that served in the Iraq and Afghanistan theaters. The bill will provide for special vehicle registration plates for recipients of the Silver Star, Bronze Star and Bronze Star with Valor. Through this legislation, recipients may apply for the special license plates by paying a $20 fee in addition to the annual registration fee and by providing such documentation as required by the Department of Transportation.
