Congratulations to Conner Czarick of Troop 600, Llewellyn and Jay Byron Arner of Troop 777, Tamaqua on achieving the rank of Eagle Scout! Their fellow scouts, family and friends celebrated their Eagle Scout Courts of Honor this past weekend.
Conner has been a scout since 2018. For his service project, he constructed a food preparation station for the Jefferson Grange Lodge #1384 to be used at their stand at the Schuylkill County Fair.
Rep. Tim Twardzik and Seth Hubler from my staff were on hand to congratulate Conner for his hard work and service to the community. Seth was a scout in Troop 600 and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in 2018. He now serves as an Assistant Scoutmaster and led Saturday’s ceremony.
Jay cleaned eight hundred tombstones at a local cemetery and made a cemetery index and a book about the history of Nesquehoning for his service project. @repheffley congratulated him on my behalf on Sunday.

Thanks to the generosity of the Hazleton community, the United Way of Greater Hazleton packed many book bags with school supplies for local students this afternoon – a genuine good deed! National Night Out in Schuylkill, Carbon, and Luzerne counties.
Communities across Pennsylvania hosted National Night Out events last night to strengthen community bonds between police officers, firefighters, EMS personnel, and all who work to keep our communities safe. Our staff was in attendance in Palmerton, Jim Thorpe, and Hazleton.
Ashland postponed their event at their Memorial Field until next Tuesday, August 13 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. We’ll be there with books and information for children about safety and more.

I was invited to @pga_pathway for the grand re-opening of their new, larger facility. Their story is inspiring – a small group of volunteers saw there was a serious need for a food bank in the Pine Grove area and took action to make it happen. Pine Grove Area Pathway is run 100% by volunteers and runs solely on donations – proof that government doesn’t have all the answers… nor should it.
Any resident of the Pine Grove School District in need of food or other life essentials can receive help for a donation of $10 on the first and third Thursday of every month from 6-8 p.m.

I visited Penn Lake Park Borough Sunday afternoon for a public meeting about the status of the Penn Lake dam, which is in serious need of repairs. It was clear why so many residents are so passionate about saving the lake – it’s a beautiful location right in the heart of the community.
@repcabell and I secured a state grant of $100,000 to support the repairs, but more must be done.

Pennsylvania colleges and universities must fight campus antisemitism.
I called a public hearing of the Senate Education Committee today to hear directly from students about the dramatic rise in antisemitism on college campuses since the October 7 massacre, where Hamas terrorists killed more than 1,000 Israelis, most of whom were civilians.
We heard very disturbing accounts today of a student wearing Nazi propaganda, displays of footage from the October 7 massacre, and masked protesters chanting about a globalized intifada, invoking a troubling period of heightened violence and suicide bombings in Israel in the early 2000s. Unfortunately, testifiers were worried that these antisemitic instances will continue in the coming academic year.
It’s deeply troubling to hear that blatant antisemitism was allowed to fester on our campuses. Action must be taken to prevent this from happening here again.
