MAHANOY CITY – Senator David G. Argall (R-29) today reminded constituents that Senate Bill 314, Senator Tomlinson’s (R-Bucks) new law to ban “texting” while driving in the state of Pennsylvania, goes into effect on March 8.
“Too often we open the newspapers to read about innocent lives taken due to distracted driving,” said Argall, who was urged by an overwhelming number of constituents to support this measure. “The law seeks to prevent texting behind the wheel and making our state a better, safer place for everyone. I hope this takes the focus off the cell phone and back on the road.”
The bill defines text-based communication as a text message, instant message, e-mail or other written communication composed or received on an interactive wireless device. Violations are enforceable as a primary offense and include a $50 fine. The bill was signed by Governor Corbett on November 9.
