HARRISBURG – Legislation addressing pay differences between corrections managers and lower-ranking officers passed the Senate today by a final vote of 45-5. Senate Bill 1019 addresses the unfairness in pay between Lieutenants and Sergeants within the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections.
“With two state correctional institutions in Schuylkill County, this problem is impacting morale and the Department of Corrections’ ability to promote from within,” said Argall, the bill’s prime sponsor. “Corrections officers have a direct impact on the public safety and security of Pennsylvanians, which is why this legislation is important. After working with numerous corrections officers on this issue, we feel this plan will help bring fairness back to our state correctional facilities salary schedule.”
Senate Bill 1019 now advances to the House of Representatives.
