LEHIGHTON – This month’s local TV report by Senator David G. Argall (R-29) features a recap of a roundtable hosted by the Senate Democratic Policy Committee, chaired by Senator Lisa Boscola (D-18), on school property tax reform.
Local senators, including Sens. John Yudichak (D-14) and John Blake (D-22) attended as members of the committee.
Argall, a Republican, was invited to the bipartisan event to offer his input on a bill he sponsored with Sens. Yudichak, Mike Folmer (R-48) and Judy Schwank (D-11) that would eliminate school property taxes. The discussion included school directors, superintendents, taxpayer advocates, local elected officials and realtors.
“I’m grateful for Senator Boscola for inviting me to attend this bipartisan hearing on this key issue,” Argall said. “The television program allows viewers to see the wide-reaching consensus that property taxes are unfair as well as hear a constructive discussion with advocates and adversaries how the legislature can change the current system that has existed since the 1830s.”
The Senate Democratic Policy Committee will team up with the Senate Republican Policy Committee to hold a similar bipartisan roundtable discussion with representatives of organizations both supportive and opposed to the plan in December at the state Capitol.
