Property tax elimination 76 debate and vote on Senate floor Tuesday

Finally!! After many years of pushing for school property tax elimination I am pleased to tell you that for the first time ever legislation identical to Senate Bill 76, which I have introduced at the request of more than 80 local taxpayer groups, will come before the full Senate on Tuesday for debate and a vote.

The complete elimination of this outdated and staggering tax has been an important issue for many Pennsylvanians. Given the number of residents, both local and statewide, who have expressed their support for this initiative to restore homeownership, it is clear that immediate action is needed.

I have explained to many of you that when my grandfather Argall began to teach at local schools in the 1920s, he was paid partly in vegetables by the local farmers. We no longer pay school employees with vegetables, but we’re still stuck with this archaic and unfair 1834-era property tax. This photo notes that just as this Middleport school where he taught during the 1930s and later is no longer appropriate for the modern era, neither is the property tax!
