Sincerely, John DiSanto Committee Will Focus on Cost Savings in State GovernmentThis year’s round of state budget negotiations is expected to be extremely difficult and contentious due to a budget shortfall that could approach or exceed $600 million. In light of the significant challenges we are likely to face this year in creating a balanced and responsible state spending plan, it has never been more important for lawmakers to explore every avenue to restructure government operations and save tax dollars. The Senate Intergovernmental Operations Committee plays a critical role in reviewing legislation to streamline state government programs, services and agencies. It was an honor for me to be appointed recently to lead this panel in the 2017-18 Legislative Session. Taxpayers deserve to know that their money is being managed in a way that minimizes costs and maximizes results. In the weeks and months to come, I look forward to working with the members of the committee to find new ways to make state government operate more efficiently.
